Gain More, Keep Less January 22, 2010
Posted by tiffany in : Preperations , add a commentIt’s a good idea to get rid of as many items as possible not only because it makes more money for the trip by selling them, it allows us to store the remaining necessities at friend’s and family’s houses. This cuts the cost of having to rent a storage shed. So that being said, my dining room table has transformed into clutter central with all of the nick knacks and miscellaneous items I have been finding through out the house. There are three signs among everything: Unsure, Keep, and Sell.Any items deemed unsellable are donated to the Salvation Army.
Unsure
The Unsure area is designated for items that hang in the balance either because I do not know if I want to sell them or their ability to sell is questionable.
Keep
The Keep pile stays relatively empty and is often revisited to make sure the items there are not there because I am used to having them. They have to have a real sentimental value or something I actually need. A good way to make sure we don’t keep too much is to get a box that Chris and I have agreed is a appropriate size and limit items to the amount that will fit in the box comfortably with the lid on.
Sell/ Donate
The last area is divided into sell and donate. Items in the sell pile are going to be taken to Trader’s Village. Certain items that can be appraised, may also able to be sold at a specialty shop. Items such as clothes (which I have no idea how to gauge price and will not attempt to sell anyway) are designated unsellable get put in the donate pile.
Clearing out the Junk January 20, 2010
Posted by Chris in : Preperations , add a commentWell, we’re rifling through our stuff and finding things that we want to store for when we get back and things that we want to get rid of. We filled up both the back seat and trunk of my car with books and took them down to Half Priced Books.
Amazing, we only got $75 for it but you know what, it’s better than trying to pack all of those books up and store them or take them with us!
I love it when I find collectible things in my house that aren’t interesting or even really desirable to me, it means I have something new to sell!! So we’re doing that, getting ready, just under 5 weeks to leave date folks!!
Getting Closer December 31, 2009
Posted by Chris in : Preperations , 2commentsJust over 7 weeks until we leave and we’re getting excited. We have a bit more clothes shopping to do, probably going to hit up Gap because we have a roommate who works there so we can get discounts on clothes. I’m planning to take 2 pairs of jeans, a couple of pairs of quick drying pants, 2 pairs of pants that can have the legs removed to make them shorts, and a swimsuit. Also, several t-shirts and 2 pairs of long underwear. 1 polo shirt. 1 swimsuit.
As to what Tiff’s packing, I’ll try to get her on here to write something up before we leave, I promise.
See you in Europe soon!
Christmas Time! December 21, 2009
Posted by Chris in : Preperations , add a commentWith Christmas coming up shortly and our Europe trip not far behind, we’re excitedly looking towards what we will get that will help in our travels! There are a few things still that we want to get ourselves but, at the same time, there are tons of things that we could probably use that we might not think of ourselves. As Christmas gets rounded up, we will make sure to update our list of What We’re Bringing to reflect our new things.
9 Unusual Things to Prepare for Europe December 7, 2009
Posted by Chris in : Preperations , 1 comment so farAs we prepare for our European Adventure, we’ve realized that there are some strange things that most people don’t think to plan for when planning an adventure.
1. We need to get our Wisdom teeth removed
2. We need to procure a small statue to take with us to photograph in different places
3. I have to sell my car before we leave
4. An exceptionally neurotic detailed list of how to take care of your cats, each one individually
5. Start planning for when we get back
6. Take Anthropology classes to learn to talk to the natives
7. Get your family to be OK with your travel plans
8. Figure out travel income
9. Wean your roommates off of you
Feel free to share your unusual travel plans in the comments!
