Gain More, Keep Less January 22, 2010
Posted by tiffany in : Preperations , trackbackIt’s a good idea to get rid of as many items as possible not only because it makes more money for the trip by selling them, it allows us to store the remaining necessities at friend’s and family’s houses. This cuts the cost of having to rent a storage shed. So that being said, my dining room table has transformed into clutter central with all of the nick knacks and miscellaneous items I have been finding through out the house. There are three signs among everything: Unsure, Keep, and Sell.Any items deemed unsellable are donated to the Salvation Army.
Unsure
The Unsure area is designated for items that hang in the balance either because I do not know if I want to sell them or their ability to sell is questionable.
Keep
The Keep pile stays relatively empty and is often revisited to make sure the items there are not there because I am used to having them. They have to have a real sentimental value or something I actually need. A good way to make sure we don’t keep too much is to get a box that Chris and I have agreed is a appropriate size and limit items to the amount that will fit in the box comfortably with the lid on.
Sell/ Donate
The last area is divided into sell and donate. Items in the sell pile are going to be taken to Trader’s Village. Certain items that can be appraised, may also able to be sold at a specialty shop. Items such as clothes (which I have no idea how to gauge price and will not attempt to sell anyway) are designated unsellable get put in the donate pile.
